Masterclass: PHOTOGRAPHY AS A BUSINESS

 

 

 

Marketing tools for photographers Immersive working day with Marc Prüst to know the bases of photography business. We’ll go through basic skills such as defining brand values, drawing a market map and identifying audience and clients, combined with introductions to various business models available to working photographers.

LECTURER

MARC PRÜST is an active photography consultant, curator and teacher. He creates exhibitions, organizes masterclasses and lectures and writes on photography. As well as this, he advises photographers on how to develop their work and how to market it.Since 2005 he has curated Noorderlicht Photography in The Netherlands and FotoGrafia in Rome. He was the Art director for Photoreporter Festival in Saint Brieuc, France, as well as producer for the World Press Photo Foundation. He also worked as Creative director for the only photo festival in Nigeria, LagosPhoto. He was responsible for the international cultural activities of the Agence VU, and for the multiawarded exhibition «Things As They Are, Photo Journalism in Context since 1955».

SILVIA OMEDES is an independent photography consultant, curator, editor, photographers’ agent, and professor. She is a co-founder and currently director of Photographic Social Vision Foundation.

HELENA VELEZ OLABARRIA has worked as an architectural photographer, construction monitor, and studio cordinator. She is currently the Projects Area manager at Photographic Social Vision, coordinating the World Press Photo Barcelona and the DOCfield Festival de Fotografia Documental de Barcelona.

PROGRAM

The story as a project, and finding its place in the new photographic market.

Participants will be introduced to the main concepts of the business of photography. Basic skills such as defining brand values, drawing a market map and identifying audience and clients, are combined with introductions to various business models available to working photographers. Participants will go home with a clear idea of the potential of the photographic marketplace, their position within that market and the outlines of a business plan.
The day will see a combination of lectures, discussions, and hands-on exercises as well as selected portfolio reviews that put the theory into practice.

Requirements:

Submmisson an ongoing Documentary Project. Brief text and selection of 10-20 photos.
