Let Me Be Myself

The project began as a participative photography workshop with the principal aim of creating new relationships, through photography, among young people between the ages of fourteen and eighteen, all residents of the same Besòs neighbourhood. After determining the wishes and needs of the group, the initial objective was reformulated with a view to opening up the workshop to the rest of the city and integrating the two. It was opened to teenagers from other areas of the city who share a passion for photography.

The workshop offered tools for the teenagers to express themselves through their own images, portraying both their private worlds and the surroundings in which they live. Through participation in the creation of an artistic project, we worked to reinforce the participants’ own identities while at the same time encouraging connection and interaction with others. In addition to the photographic training, we sought to create a space for encounter that would provide opportunities for the exchange of experiences between teenaged girls and boys from different neighbourhoods, cultures, and origins. The final result was the presentation of the exhibition “Let Me Be Myself” at the Centre Cívic Pati Llimona.
