Oscar Dhooge

Eeklo (Belgium), 1970

Oscar has lived in Barcelona since 2005. Following a period of independent study and various workshops and courses, Oscar decided to deepen his understanding of documentary photography at El Observatorio and RUIDO Photo. He also studied multimedia with José Bautista (Kansei Sounds) at the Institut d’Estudis Fotogràfics de Catalunya (IEFC) and video at the CFD in Barcelona.

His work focuses on the themes of collective memory, migration, and the rights of the most vulnerable groups in society. With his interest in the human scope of stories, he soon felt the need to produce documentary projects of long duration.

His work has been published in Vice, GEA PHOTOWORDS, Reset, Diagonal, Heraldo de Aragón, Boardilla (Brazil), Date Cuenta, and Eurordis and appeared in festivals such as DOCfield Barcelona, Fin Art Igualada, CCCB L’alternativa, PA-TA-TA Foto Festival de Granada, and Scan Tarragona. He has exhibited in Barcelona at the Centre Cultural La Farinera del Clot and Centre Cívic Pati Llimona and actively participated in the photography and journalism seminar organized by the Fundación Santa María de Albarracín.

He has received a CFD study grant, won awards at Slideluck BCN and Pati Llimona Enfocats, been chosen as a finalist for grants from Jiwar Internacional and Espai Fotogràfic Can Basté, and preselected for the Athens Photo Festival, the III Premio Revela, and an Albarracín grant. He is currently working with the journalist Jesús Martínez (Ediciones Carena) and the studio The Visual Suspects.
